Summer Meeting July 1, 2007
Sandy S. will be hosting the July 21
Picnic and Pool Party. Timing and details on the picnic will follow. Thank you Sandy.
For those of you who missed the annual meeting, here are the highlights:
For the first time in 10 years the rental fee for the curling facility has increased.
This was not a surprise. As a result the Board and Membership has agreed to increase our annual dues
by 20% and eliminate the Couples Dues. Please see the
Membership page for details.
The new board was installed. Sandy S., Karyn and I agreed to continue in the positions we held last year.
Barbara has her Membership Committee organized, Cathy will be coordinating the Decoy Auction Pre-View Party,
and Mooch, Rick and I have met with Rick Towle to input our schedule into the Community Center Schedule.
Mooch is putting the final details to the schedule.
The full board roster is available on the Club Leadership page.
In other news, Debbie will be having an organizational meeting for the Senior Ladies
on July 10. She has
sent a detailed email to the ladies.
As you have heard, the Ladies League Garage Sale fund raiser was a great success! Thanks to all of you who
donated and participated and especially to Sandy for organizing the sale and storing the stuff in her garage.
The final net income was more than $800!
Kirsten, our very active social member and new mother from North Carolina, has located a new pin supplier
and procured 200 pins, which the club will be selling for $5.00 each. Ann H. will continue as the pin sales person.
This is much better than our former supplier. Thank you Kirsten for pin work and also thank you for coming to the
Annual Meeting with Mae and Rich.
I hope to see a lot of you at the picnic.
Have a Good Summer,
Dick
USWCA Senior Ladies ‘spiel June 26, 2007
Hi everyone - Due to an overwhelming vote I have moved our organizational meeting to
TUESDAY, July 10 at 7:30 PM at my house.
The agenda is:
* Where are we with finances
* Plan the activities for the event
* Where to have the Wednesday night kit party @ the rink or at the hotel
* Thursday night dinner plans
* Opening ceremonies agenda
* Decide on location of the Friday Banquet
* Assign Committee Chairs:
-- Hospitality (including Kit Party & House Parties)
-- Housing
-- Publicity
-- Rules
-- Decorations
-- Banquet
-- Entertainment
In addition someone needs to became the Treasurer for the event and OF COURSE we
will need a lot of help for timing and taking care of the ice in between games....
we may even need to flood again during the 'spiel which will be a late night or very early AM job!
I know that several of you have already acquired ‘stuff’ for decorations, but we need to get a
clear idea of what has been 'gotten' and what else we want to have.
I will provide dessert, iced tea and soda... and hopefully we can move along so the meeting
lasts no longer than 1 and 1/2 hrs. Please let me know if you're coming and if you need directions
I'll be happy to give them. Many thanks, Debbie H
Yard Sale a Success! June 19, 2007
Just wanted to let everyone know that the Yard Sale was a success! We netted approximately
$830.00! Thank you very much to everyone who donated items and helped. We did not have much
left at the end. The Neighborhood Service Center is coming out on Wednesday to pick up the
balance of stuff, so we will be helping others also.
We would like to do another in the fall, so start saving! If anyone has the room to store items
until the next one, please let us know.
Again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the items and help! Sandy S
CCC Garage Sale, Saturday June 16 June 5, 2007
Hi Everyone! The Ladies Fund Yard Sale (to raise money for USWCA Ladies Bonspiel) is on June 16th,
Saturday, from 7:00 am to 10ish. If you have donations, but can't make it, please feel free to bring
them by my house at anytime. We will need a lot of help pricing on Thursday and Friday night (may only
need to do 1 night of pricing if we have a lot of help). It is going to be at my house, we can set
up in parking lot across street and in my driveway.
Please let me know ASAP if you can come help and if you have unique items that I can put in ad to
catch people’s attention. Remember: ONE MANS JUNK IS ANOTHER MANS TREASURE! Give me a call if you
have any questions. Thanks Sandy S.
Hi Everyone,
So far only 6 members have responded to Sandy’s email for providing goods, help with pricing or
be there for the sale itself (need to arrive by 6am). This is an important fund raiser for the Ladies League
so your involvement will be greatly appreciated. PLEASE LET SANDY KNOW YOUR INTENTIONS. Thanks, Dick B.
Online Coaching Classes May 29, 2007
Registration for the two on-line classes on coaching theory is now open. The classes are as follows:
Sport Psychology for Better Curling – led by Dr. Saul L. Miller.
June 4 – 8:00-9:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time [registration deadline: June 1]
In this on-line seminar for coaches and curlers, Dr. Miller will provide a practical overview of how the
mind works, and discuss four key sport psychology elements of high performance curling: 1) focus, 2)
emotional control, 3) attitude (commitment, confidence, identity), and 4) mental preparation. The purpose
of this interactive seminar is to provide information to assist both elite and developing curlers in
improving performance. Saul L. Miller, Ph.D., is one of North America’s leading sport psychologists and

Advanced Strategy for Better Curling – led by USCA Athlete Development Director Ed Lukowich
June 28 – 8:00-9:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time [registration deadline: June 25] As a skip,
are you an aggressive person who likes to dictate the strategy of a match? Or do you prefer to be
less aggressive – and more reactive – counter-punching any tactics your opponent might try? In this
one-hour seminar, coaches and curlers will learn how to use multiple approaches to increase success.
Whether you’re the skip of a club team or an elite athlete, USA Curling Athlete Development Director
Ed Lukowich’s insights can help you identify the best strategies and apply the correct skills to give
your curling a competitive edge. Ed Lukowich has been the U.S. Curling Association’s Athlete Development
Director since 2000. He has supported U.S. teams winning gold, silver and bronze medals at World
Championships, and medaling at the Olympic Winter Games. A competitive athlete himself, Ed Lukowich
skipped the Men’s World Championship team of 1986. Lukowich has written four books on curling
(The Curling Book, Curling To Win, Joy of Curling, and Power Curling);
produced a 60-minute instructional video (Fast Eddy’s Curling Tips); is one of the initial founders
of the TSN (Canadian network) Skins Game; and is co-founder of and previous executive director of
the World Curling Tour.
Find more information and registration form on the main page of www.usacurl.org.
Classes are $20.00 each. Thanks!
